In 2024, GOGLA collaborated with selected partners and investors to compile an extensive list of companies actively engaged in commercialising productive-use appliances serving off-grid and weak-grid customers. You can explore all the information gathered through the online tool:
We are considering whether to dedicate resources to regularly updating this list. Please share feedback with us through this survey to help us assess the tool’s usefulness and how we can improve it. If you represent a company that is misrepresented in the data or believe your company should be added, please fill this form or reach out to a.waburi@gogla.org.
The data includes company names, the countries where they are active and the types of productive appliances they sell.
The list includes a mix of manufacturers and distributors. For manufacturers, the listed countries likely reflect where their products are available rather than where they have their own operations. In total, there are 250 companies in this dataset, active in 95 countries across Africa, Asia, South America, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Europe and North America.
The most commonly featured technologies include pumps, fridges, cold rooms, electric vehicles (EVs), freezers, dryers and mills. It is important to note that while all listed companies are involved in the commercialisation of productive appliances, these products may or may not be sold with a renewable power source.
The most active markets, according to our data, are mostly in Sub-Saharan Africa with the exception of India. However, this trend can be attributed to the data sources, which are primarily from stakeholders active in the access to energy and off-grid solar (OGS) sectors. Of the 20 most active markets, 19 are in Africa including 10 in East Africa, 8 in West Africa and 1 in Central Africa. The ranking of markets aligns closely with broader trends observed in the OGS sector.
